Season 2 Episode 1 “New Gotham”

After Gotham is declared no longer part of the United States, the newly formed Injustice League try to seize control of the city away from Harley.

After enjoying the hilarity and clever writing from the first season, my hopes were definitely high for Season 2. It’s been less than a year since the ADULTS ONLY animated series became the surprise hit from Warner Bros streaming app, DC Universe. Hidden behind a ton of violence and foul language was crafty writing and hilarious humor.

Spoiler-ish stuff below

Enter Episode 1 of Season 2, which was a little disappointing, given the ingredients mentioned above. Don’t get me wrong, this episode, titled ‘New Gotham’, does have its moments (the talk between Gordon and Robin … which is priceless and basically almost every word that comes out of Bane’s mouth), but overall it didn’t provide as many gut-busting occurrences as last season.

Some of the other amusing times are provided by the other super villain henchmen (one pictured above with the Riddler) as Harley rallies the men for a new cause. Good stuff, not great.

Don’t worry though, the episode does set up what looks to be another fun season, which fans like me should enjoy. There’s also a nice surprise at the end that’ll make you tune in next week. This is undoubtable the best that DC Universe has to offer right now in my opinion and is worth a half-hour of your time. Again, this is an ADULTS ONLY comedy. Just because it’s a cartoon, doesn’t mean your kids should be watching.

Batman: The Adventure Continues  is available at Comixology  and other digital platforms today. The price comes in at a very affordable 99 cents. The new comic series is inspired by DC Direct’s action figure line and the first issue was written by animated tv legends, Paul Dini and Alan Burnett, with art by Ty Templeton.

A great way to read this comic is with Shirley Walker’s beautiful music, from the old animated series, playing in the background. A couple of major DC villains make an appearance in this inaugural issue, with one other bad guy making a more subtle one (in the shadows). Titled, Hardware Part 1,  the issue is a really nice start to a promising new series, which most fans of the old tv series should enjoy. The issue is also a springboard for other Justice League characters, who will undoubtedly make appearances in later issues. In fact, expect a number of characters, heroes and villains, to grace the pages of this series, as DC is pushing an action figure line through it.
