UPDATE ON NEW BATMAN FILM

Matt Reeves was speaking at a Television Critics Association panel yesterday and gave an update on his Batman solo film.

/Film was there and gave us the following info:

A draft of the script is being worked on by Reeves and could be ready in a couple of weeks.

The movie could be ready for filming by Spring or early Summer in 2019.

Affeck is not out of the picture, but no official announcement has been made regarding who will play the Dark Knight.

The film will NOT be based on Batman: Year One.

It will be noir-driven in which Batman is investigating a particular case and that takes us out into the world of Gotham.

THE DEATH OF SUPERMAN REVIEW

There have been a number of storylines which explorer the narrative
of Superman’s death; comics (The Death of
Superman, DC Comics’ landmark 1992-93 comic phenomenon), a live-action
film (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice 2016) and now in animated form. The Death of Superman, is the first of a two-part film experience that will
conclude with Reign of the Supermen in early 2019. As it is with any of these
stories though, it’s hard for me to truly love them, as it’s a tale of the
demise of one of the greatest fictional characters ever at the hands of
Doomsday. It’s kind of like trying to enjoy a bad breakup. With that said, this
movie, like a romance, is something that you can love while it’s happening, but
towards the end is hard to get through. I will add at the end of this film I
was emotionally invested to the characters and I think the handling of the
story was something I wish the live-action version could have done better.

One of the movie’s greatest strengths was its fantastic
action sequences. It’s as if a comic book had burst out of its pages and come
to life (in animated form that is). The Justice League seemed to be at their
best here, demonstrating excellent teamwork, while also exhibiting a genuine
care for each other’s wellbeing. While not forced, there’s even some subtle
humor sprinkled throughout the film.

image

Another thing that some of the recent DC live-action films could
take note of are the powerful heroic moments. Timing, limited dialogue and “animated”
facial expressions are the key here.

image

One of the only nitpicking things I had a problem with were the
Justice League member’s costumes, especially Wonder Woman and Superman’s. Not a
fan at all. Fortunately, the animation itself is wonderful and let’s face it, it’s
the ultimate kind of film to show off that 4K HD TV.

image

Do I recommend it? Absolutely! For an animated film it packs
a surprisingly huge emotional punch, while providing a sizable helping of
stellar action. This one will make a welcome addition to your comic book film
catalog.
